We come from different backgrounds but share the same passion
Issac Chu started playing saxophone when he was at the age of twelve. Chu is so inspired by music, under the guidance of Mr. Michael Campbell, he achieved Trinity Guildhall Recital Diploma (ATCL) in alto saxophone with distinction in 2011.
Chu is currently studying classical saxophone overseas at the Conservatorium of Music, University of Sydney, Australia, for his bachelor degree, major in performance with “The Elizabethan Trust Ladies Committee Scholarship”. He has been receiving guidance from Dr. Michael Duke since 2014. Moreover, he has participated masterclasses given by Dr. Jonathan Helton, Dr. Stephen Page, Dr. Timothy Roberts and Mr. Joshua Hyde. Chu has performed actively in Sydney and Hong Kong as a soloist and as a member of different groups. They are Saxophone Orchestra, Wind Symphony and Modern Music Ensemble in Sydney Conservatorium of Music, and La Sax saxophone ensemble (HK) in Hong Kong. Chu also plays in a saxophone quartet formed with fellow schoolmates. In 2015, he participated in a CD recording project “Celebrare” of the Sydney Conservatorium of Music Wind Symphony as a baritone saxophone player conducted by Dr. John Lynch. |
Shania Chan developed her interest in music at an early age. She started her music training by learning piano, then started her saxophone study at the age of 11 under the coaching of Ms. Fanny Lau in Our Lady’s Primary School. She held the certificate of ABRSM Grade 8 piano, saxophone and theory, as well as the Associate Certificate in saxophone performance from London Trinity College (ATCL).
Shania is currently a music student of the Hong Kong Baptist University under the tutelage of Mr. Jeffrey Chan. During her studies at HKBU, she has been a member of Hong Kong Baptist University Wind Symphony. She is also a regular member of Hong Kong Young Musicians’ Wind Orchestra and La Sax Saxophone Ensemble (HK). In 2015, together with La Sax, Shania performed with a well-known Japanese saxophonist Nobuya Sugawa in La Sax 10th Anniversary concert. Shania actively participated in a variety of music activities. She used to be a member of Hong Kong Citywinds Ensemble and The Education University of Hong Kong Symphonic Band. Besides, in order to learn and get inspiration from different musicians, Shania has actively participated in master classes by Timothy McAllister, Nathan Bogert, Nobuya Sugawa and Chih-Huan Wu and Lars Mlekusch. Moreover, Shania is passionate in participating overseas activities. She has joined the Hong Kong International Saxophone Symposium in 2016, and the Asia Pacific Saxophone Academy in Thailand as well. |
Zoey Chan developed her intense interest in music at age 6 with training on piano. She was first exposed to saxophone music during her early secondary school life in Shun Lee Catholic Secondary School, then came as an active member in the school band. She held the certificate of ABRSM Grade 8 saxophone and piano at age of 15.
Zoey has been endeavored to widen her musical exposure locally since she was young. Apart from the school band, she also joined La Sax, the Hong Kong Youth Music Camp, and Hong Kong Youth Wind Philharmonia in 2009, 2010 and 2011 respectively. She enjoys playing music with different people that exchanging experiences with different people in the field, including peers and seniors, has been a great pleasure for her since then. In recent years, she has begun to put more emphasis on her study. That she has been enthusiastic in learning Japanese Language since she was in secondary school, she holds the certificate of N3 in Japanese Language Proficiency Test, and will be on exchange to Tokyo for half-year in 2015 to further nurture herself in Japanese culture. She is thus looking forward to make use of her musical knowledge during her exchange, as well as spicing up La Sax with her exchange experience after that. Chan is currently a year three student in Bachelor of Arts taking double major in Japanese Language and Comparative Literature in the University of Hong Kong. |
Kei Tsz Ching Joyce has started her musical training on the piano since 2001. She started learning saxophone in the school band during her secondary school life in Hong Kong Chinese Women’s Club College and held the certificate of ABRSM Grade 8 saxophone and piano. Since then, she became a member of the Hong Kong Symphonic Winds and joined La Sax in 2009, aiming at promoting wind music to the public by performing regularly in community. During her study, she actively participated in different music contests like Hong Kong Schools Music Festival and Band Festival. She was also a former band captain in school. Joyce also has various international performance experiences. She took part in the Beijing Olympic Band Festival in 2008 and the World Music Contest in Holland in 2012.
As a final year university student, Joyce is studying Bachelor of Business Administration in Hong Kong University of Science And Technology. |
Ching-Kiu started learning to play saxophone in TWGHs Yow Kam Yuen College when she was 12. She was taught by many active saxophone players in Hong Kong such as Ms. Miriam Tsui, Mr. Maxwell Fung and Mr. Wong Tak Chiu. Currently, Ching-Kiu is studying saxophone under the tutelage of Mr. Jeffery Chan.
Ching-Kiu was the chairlady of the secondary school symphonic band. She performed in the 17th Chiayi City International Band Festival in Tai Wan, the Macau Band Fair 2010 and the 2012 Jeju International Wind Ensemble Festival in Korea afterwards. Ching-Kiu is active in participating in overseas events. In 2013, she also played in the Europess 61st Muziek Festival with TWGHs Wong Fut Nam College Symphonic Band as a guest member and won the 1st prize Coum Loude. In 2014, she participated in the Singapore Woodwind Festival with La Sax, winning the Jury Special Prize in the ensemble division. Ching-Kiu is also an active player in many other saxophone ensembles. She is now a member of The Hong Kong Symphonic Band, The Musicphilic Winds and La Sax. She held the certificate of ABRSM Grade 8 saxophone and is going to attain the Licentiate Certificate in saxophone performance from London Trinity College in April 2015. |
Leo Li started learning saxophone at secondary school and attained his Grade 8 ABRSM Saxophone certification. After graduating from Institution of Vocational Education Higher Diploma program in 2013, he then further started his music training at the Hong Kong Baptist University College of International Education Music Studies program under the coaching of Victory Fai and Jeffery Chan. He has actively join master classes held by Lars Mlekusch, Timothy Roberts and Yongsit Yongkamol etc. He also participated in the Hong Kong International Saxophone Symposium. He is the member of several ensembles including Vocational Training Centre Orchestra, City Winds Ensemble, Joyeux Winds and Hong Kong Young Musician's Wind Orchestra. He is a regular member of La Sax and has recently won the Special Prize of woodwind ensemble division of Singapore Woodwind Festival at June 2014. He is now a saxophone tutor of various music education centers in Hong Kong.

Tse Wai Kwan started studying saxophone in the school band during her secondary school life at St Bonaventure College and held the certificate of ABRSM Grade 8 saxophone. Since then, she became a member of the Hong Kong Symphonic Winds and became a regular member of La Sax in 2009. During her studies, she won several prizes at the Hong Kong School Music Festival. She was also a former band captain in school. Kwan also appeared in the worlds leading saxophone festivals including the Hong Kong International Saxophone Symposium the World Association for Symphonic Band and Ensembles (WASBE) the Asia Pacific Saxophone Academy. She gained her Advance Diploma in saxophone at the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts and currently she is pursuing her Bachelor of Music Degree at the same institution.

Ocean YIP started his saxophone study at the age of 12 with Ms. Angel Ma in Po Leung Kuk No. 1 W.H. Cheung College. During his studies, he was an active wind band player and had participated in and won prizes in band festivals and the Hong Kong Schools Music Festival.
Majoring in Saxophone Performance and Pedagogy, Ocean is currently a final-year music student of the Hong Kong Baptist University under the guidance of Mr. Martin Choy and Mr. Jeffrey Chan. He has also participated in master classes given by Kenneth Tse, Timothy McAllister, Lars Mlekusch, Tsai Chia-Hsiu, Fabrice Moretti. Ocean is active in participating in overseas events. In 2013, he joined the World Music Contest (WMC) with Hong Kong Young Musicians’ Wind Orchestra. In 2014, He participated in the Singapore Woodwind Festival with La Sax, winning the Jury Special Prize in the ensemble division. During his studies at HKBU, Ocean has been a member of Hong Kong Baptist University Choir and the principal saxophonist of Hong Kong Baptist University Symphony Orchestra. He presently serves as the principal saxophonist of Hong Kong Baptist University Wind Symphony. He is currently a regular member of Hong Kong Young Musicians’ Wind Orchestra and La Sax. |
